Olha Zaharovska: “My Wings Are My Faith in Myself and in the Higher Meaning Behind Everything That Happens”
Olha Zaharovska is a hairstylist in NYC, a NYFW stylist, mentor, Bronze Award Winner, and the author of her own professional vision of beauty. Her story began in childhood, among mirrors and conversations about feminine beauty in her mother’s hair salon, and eventually led her to New York, international competitions, and recognition within the professional community: Olha was named among the Top 100 Global Hairstylists.
In this interview, we speak about the art of being a woman, the journey from the first professional steps to the international stage, and the wings that help us move forward through times of turbulence.
Ms. Zaharovska, in one of your posts, you wrote so beautifully: “My mission is to inspire women to be visible.” Could you tell us how your personal journey toward becoming a stylist began?
My personal story began long before I became fully conscious of who I was and what I wanted. I spent my entire childhood in the hair salon where my mother worked. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee prepared for clients, the sound of the bell on the door, the rustle of aprons, the hum of hair dryers, and the mirrors reflecting hundreds of smiles — all of it was my little world.
I grew up surrounded by conversations about beauty, women’s dreams, secrets of style, and the quiet confessions clients entrusted to my mother. It was there that I first saw how something as simple as touching a woman’s hair could transform not only her appearance, but also her mood, emotional state, and even her confidence.
Perhaps that was when a deep conviction was born within me: a hairstylist is not simply a professional. A hairstylist is someone who creates magic, restores faith in oneself, and helps a woman see her own beauty through new eyes.
Modern womanhood, in your vision, is an extraordinary art form. What does the image of the modern woman look like through your eyes?
Modern womanhood, as I see it, is a work of art, a living canvas where strength and tenderness, freedom and depth converge.
For me, a modern woman is defined not only by her outward image, but above all by her inner state.
She is sincere with herself and with the world. She hears her own desires and allows herself to honor them.
She loves herself — not selfishly, but with respect, with gentle care for her body, her soul, and her dreams.
Her presence is impossible to forget because she radiates the light of her authenticity, while her beauty becomes a reflection of the harmony within.
I am still learning this myself throughout my life, and I try to embody and radiate it.
Your journey has been illuminated by such remarkable experiences: participation in NYFW, a Bronze Award, and recognition among the Top 100 hairstylists in the world. What advice would you give to those who are only taking their first steps in their careers? And perhaps, what advice would you give your younger self, many years ago?
I would say:
“Enjoy the process and believe in your uniqueness. Do not try to copy others or become ‘like someone else’ — your true magnetism emerges when you have the courage to express who you are.
Do not be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes often become our most valuable teachers. They shape our character and open new horizons.
Keep learning: from colleagues, from masters, from life, and from your clients. The world of beauty and creativity is limitless, and every day can offer you a new level of mastery.
And perhaps the most important thing I would tell my younger self is this: never diminish your dreams. Everything you imagine is already waiting for you somewhere. The important thing is to keep moving toward it, without stopping, even when the journey sometimes feels long.”
Life is made of triumphs and falls, of learning not to betray yourself and of allowing yourself to make mistakes. What are the wings behind your back when life enters a period of turbulence?
My wings are my faith in myself and in the higher meaning behind everything that happens. When life enters a period of turbulence, I remind myself that everything that comes into my life comes for my growth.
My family, my loved ones, my clients, and my students who believe in me are my points of support. And then there is the inner love I have for what I do. It holds me even when it feels as though my strength is reaching its limit.
I am learning not to fight the wind, but to open my wings and allow it to carry me forward — toward a new level of myself. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, yet it is often stylists who set the tone for a new vision of beauty.
Which hairstyles, techniques, or approaches do you believe will define the trends of 2026?
1. Creative Cuts: Bixie, Pixie, and Butterfly
A pixie cut with a sun-kissed, textured finish — a fluid transition from classic structure toward a freer, more effortless aesthetic — revives the spirit of the 1990s through a contemporary lens.
Bixie is a hybrid of a bob and a pixie, creating unexpected volume, playful softness, and energy.
The Butterfly haircut remains a striking favorite: its layered cuts create a light, breathable texture that moves beautifully and naturally frames the face.
2. Volume, Waves, and Retro Accents
Statement blondes and voluminous curls are making a return, inspired by the superstars of the 1990s and bringing elegance and depth to the overall look.
Fairy waves — long, romantic waves that seem to have stepped out of a fairytale — add an effortless sense of enchantment to the hairstyle.
